More Lib-Lab News

A senior Lib Dem was approached by Gordon Brown yesterday. Lord Ashdown has now confirmed it, and that he refused the advance because Ming Campbell had made it clear there would be no Lib Dems in a Labour government.

This is a good piece of news for the Conservatives for a number of reasons:

1. It keeps the Lib-Lab coalition concept in the public eye

2. Gordon Brown clearly isn’t asking many Conservatives to get into bed with him - reinforcing the idea that there is closer proximity between Labour and LibDems

3. Paddy Ashdown was obeying his leader’s orders - this, in a small way, reinforces Ming’s position as leader - a Lib Dem party led by Campbell will no doubt be weaker in the General Election than one led by Huhne/Clegg/my dog.

Good good. Carry on.
